When Adrian asked me to be a contributing writer on Dad or Alive, it took all of about five seconds (equal to the foreplay* I get on a Friday night) to figure out what I should write about—And that was simple: shopping.
All girls love shopping, but when you have kids, it gives rise to an entire new sub-genre in your mall experience…for me, I feel like I get to play Barbies again, dressing Ava and “Ken” in their specialty outfits every single day. I don’t trust people who have “play clothes” and “nice clothes”—they’re going to grow out of them soon enough, why not just let them wear “nice clothes” all the time?
Anyway, I digress… this column will pay homage to all of the things I love to buy and use in raising our growing family.
Granted, the amount of collective time I’ve stayed home full-time with our children is sadly less than a baseball season; however, that is what specifically makes me more aware of any products and services that I can use to save time and energy—because when I am home, I’d rather not waste time cleaning—I want to spend it with my kids. And I’m a sucker for a huge bargain–I never buy anything full price.
When Ava was a little younger, I got pissed off at her Fisher-Price Space Saver highchair tray. Mostly because we used it three times a day, if not more, and even though it touted a “dishwasher safe” inscription, I hardly had time to throw it in after every meal. Likewise, I hated having to scrub it with soap or cleaner and water and then rinse it and dry it after every meal or snack.
Then I found this amazing miracle:
BABYGANICS TOY & HIGHCHAIR CLEANER (@BabyGanics) is a naturally safe and non-toxic cleaner. It’s awesome because you just spray and wipe with a paper towel or hand towel, no rinse! Talk about a time saver. As a working mom, I was thrilled to find this product, and as a stay-at-home-dad, my husband was equally excited. The ingredients are plant-based cleaning agents, soy ester, filtered water, water conditioning agent, and less than .05% of preservative. Plus, this company has a killer sensibility—their warning label: “BabyGanics is not meant to be consumed, but things happen so relax – it’s not poisonous.”
Truly mimics my take on parenting.
And in the interest of full disclosure, they have not paid me to write this, nor sent me any free product—though I won’t turn them down. My parents own a thriving natural and organic products business, (check them out on Facebook!) however they don’t represent this company either, so in no way is this a conflict of interest, just pure love.
So, FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH (about $4.99) this is the absolute best baby safe highchair (and TOY!) cleaner on the market.
*EDITOR’S NOTE: Foreplay time is determined by a simple equation. Hours spent during the week doing dishes, less the number of times I’ve scratched her with my toes in bed, multiplied by how many times she farts on the toilet in the morning divided by two kids and a dog that I walk three times a day.

Love your blog!…but thought I’d share some info with you. Babyganics products aren’t as non-toxic as I used to think. EWG.org recently (a very reputable environmental watchdog group) came out with a grading system for cleaning products based on actual scientific data and their actual ingredients lists, as opposed to how they market their own products. Products rate from A through F. This particular product scored a D. http://www.ewg.org/guides/cleaners/5004-BabyGanicsTheCleanerUpperToyHighchairCleanerFragranceFree
Once you start looking at the information in their cleaning and consumer products database, you will probably revamp a lot (if not all) of your household products. I did.
