Disclosure: I am currently serving as a “Play Ambassador” for Let’s Play. This is a sponsored post, however, the opinions expressed are my own.
A few weeks ago, our family took the Let’s Play Pledge to get the kids outside this summer more than ever before and a bunch of you agreed to do the same. Let’s Play is a community partnership led by Dr Pepper Snapple Group to get kids and families active by providing the tools, places and inspiration to make play a daily priority.
I didn’t really keep a log or journal to document every single minute or hour, but I kept the pledge in mind over the summer months and we ended up doing some super fun stuff.
We loaded up the new Radio Flyer wagon and went for nature walks along the wooded path in our neighborhood. We collected leaves (rocks and sticks were also used as weapons, ouch) and tried to identify which trees they came from.
We went to many playgrounds and had the chance to visit a game preserve while on a road trip through Georgia. We fed the animals and even got to see a peacock. Ava and Charlie got their hands dirty picking strawberries and we spent hours at the pool, learning to swim and just relaxing.
Charlie learned a little bit about the Civil War as he chatted with some Union soldier actors in Harpers Ferry, WV. He also turned three in July and I (along with my father-in-law) led him and his matey’s through the neighborhood on a secret treasure hunt.
Ava spent a few weekends learning how to ride a horse, while Charlie moved some real estate in his dump trucks. We visited some beautiful local places and as the blackberries came into season, we gathered enough for a few cobblers.
I hate to brag, but one of the best things about keeping your kids busy when they’re not in school, is that – for the first time ever, I got all three of them to take a nap at the same time.
It was the most heavenly 14 minutes of my life.
