Turning on the Afterburners for Mother’s Day.

With spring in full swing and summer already nipping at its’ heels here in coastal Virginia, nothing yells out to me more than GRILLING. As most of you who follow my side-winding adventures know, we’ve recently relocated and with that, comes figuring out what to do with the brand new backyard, porch and patio. As

Hoppin’ Along the I-85 Bunny Trail.

Easter has long been one of my favorite holidays, despite that one year that I got the psychedelic bunny at the mall as evidenced in THIS previously written article. I always enjoyed the excitement surrounding the tradition of dying Easter eggs with my two younger brothers. And contrary to most peoples’ initial reaction – I

A Holiday Letter from Dad or Alive: The Year in Review.

Dear Friends and Family, This past year has been incredibly wonderful and we’re sorry that we haven’t been able to visit, call or write more often (actually ‘sorry not sorry’ at all, parenting three kids under six tends to suck the life and apologies right out of you), but we’re hoping to catch you up

The Best Succulent Thanksgiving Pumpkin Bread.

We’re all suckers for pumpkin around this time of year. We see it everywhere. We’ve got coffee, shampoo, conditioner, candles, ice cream, room and linen spray, kale and potato chips – at what point do we draw the line? Well, for me, personally, we never draw the line before we get to the bread. It’s

Black-Eyed Pea Cakes.

[ posted by jen kulp ] Black-Eyed Peas. You’d be hard pressed to find a southern staple as iconic as this youngin ‘ere. For years, my mother has made New Years Day lunch and in it is always this “lucky” food. When I was a kid, my sisters and brother and I would chew them up

Your Wings Suck, Try Mine.

It’s the beginning of week 3 in the NFL and along with the joy and heartache comes with it, the excitement of tailgating. In my earlier years, tailgating in Philadelphia was something magnificent. Charcoal smoke wafting across the landscape, as we shotgunned canned Yuengling from the cooler while obese shirtless amateur neighborhood running backs dropped

How Does Your Family Eat Dinner?

These days, it could be any night of the week. It’s 6pm, halfway through what I call the ‘witching hour’. I’ve done it all. We went on a walk to the park, we pulled out the play-doh (and put the rock hard nuggets from last week in the trash), built a nostalgic-yet-stupid balsa flyer that

BREAKING: Wingman Saves Dad on a Sweltering Summer Saturday.

So far, this summer has come out swinging. Literally. Over the past few weeks, Charlie has been grinding his way through his first season of t-ball, in our local 4 and under league. I was so excited by the idea of him being old enough to play, that I offered up my services as an

Kitchen Sink Guacamole.

Last night I got to shred up a Tostitos #GameTimeSnacks twitter party with a few dad friends – Life of Dad, The Rock Father and Rick on the Rocks. It was a great excuse to actually document the insanity behind making our own guacamole. This recipe is something that my wife and I have adapted

Thanks for Everything + A Ristorante Holiday Giveaway!

It’s nice to finally have the last few weeks behind me, the sliced and bleeding, spray-paint tipped fingers from box-cutting and taping together our family Lego Halloween costumes, has me in stitches. Well, not really, just band-aids. I finally got the pumpkin gloop out from underneath my fingernails and several showers got the colored hairspray
