Woerner Turf has become an industry leader with numerous sod farms and landscape supply stores strategically placed in the Southeast for optimal supply of fresh sod. Our number one priority is providing customers with the best sod grasses, grass seed and landscape materials . We have landscape supply stores in: Mobile, AL, Baton Rouge, LA and Jacksonville, FL. In addition, sod can be picked up locally from our sod farms in: Baldwin County, AL, Vero Beach, FL, Ethel, LA and Donaldsonville, LA.

Woerner Turf is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager for its Ethel, LA farm.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide direct supervision to crew leads, laborers and mechanics. Perform the farm manager’s duties in his absence

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

• Confer with farm manager to evaluate weather and soil conditions, to develop plans and procedures, and to discuss issues such as changes in fertilizers, herbicides or cultivating techniques.
• Inspect fields to determine condition and need for cultivating, spraying, weeding or harvesting.
• Assign duties to workers such as harvesting, mowing, spraying, and rolling of sod.
• Observe workers to detect inefficient and unsafe procedures or to identify problems, initiating corrective action as necessary.
• Review employees’ work to evaluate quality and quantity.
• Train workers in techniques such as planting, harvesting, weeding, and pest identification.
• Drive and operate farm machinery such as tractors, trucks or harvesters in order to transport workers and supplies, or to cultivate and harvest fields.
• Read inventory records, customer orders, and shipping schedules to determine required activities.
• Investigate grievances and settle disputes to maintain harmony among workers.
