Job Title: Supervised Visitation Monitor

Department: Family Services / Social Services

Reports To: Program Manager / Visitation Supervisor

Employment Type: Part-Time

Job Summary:

The Supervised Visitation Monitor oversees visits between non-custodial parents and their children in cases involving custody, court orders, or family reunification. The monitor ensures that interactions are safe, appropriate, and comply with legal or agency guidelines. This role involves observing, documenting, and, if necessary, intervening during visits to protect the well-being of the child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise court-ordered and agency-referred visits between children and non-custodial parents or guardians.
  • Ensure a safe, neutral, and child-focused environment during visitations.
  • Observe and document all interactions accurately, noting behaviors, conversations, and any incidents.
  • Prepare detailed and objective written reports for use by courts, attorneys, or caseworkers.
  • Enforce visitation rules and court guidelines with firmness and professionalism.
  • Intervene if any behavior or interaction violates safety protocols or court orders.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Report concerns of abuse, neglect, or safety risks to the appropriate authorities or supervisor.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, children, attorneys, and social workers.
  • Attend training and stay informed on child welfare, domestic violence, and trauma-informed practices.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's or bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in child welfare, family services, or similar settings strongly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong observational and documentation skills.
    • Ability to remain neutral, calm, and professional in stressful or emotional situations.
    • Understanding of child development and family dynamics.
    • Knowledge of legal and safety issues surrounding supervised visitation.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Certifications: CPR/First Aid preferred. Completion of supervised visitation training (if required by state/court).
  • Other: Must pass background checks, including criminal and child abuse clearances. Valid driver’s license may be required.

Work Conditions:

  • Visits may take place at community locations or virtually.
  • Requires evenings and weekends.
  • Requires sitting or standing for extended periods and potentially dealing with emotionally charged situations.
