Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities for the Strength and Conditioning Coach include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and implement comprehensive year-round programming (movement assessments, speed, strength and conditioning) for the athletic development and enhancement of student-athletes; maintain accurate and timely electronic records for monitoring prescribed and completed program variables
  • In coordination with the Sr. Associate AD for Sports Medicine and Assistant AD of Sports Performance, lead the development and implementation of: comprehensive injury prevention, performance enhancement, and functional performance screening and testing; utilization of performance monitoring technology (e.g., heart rate monitoring, body composition, force plates, NordBord, GPS, sleep monitoring, velocity-based training modalities, etc.) as a tool to better plan and adjust training plans; continuously seek continuing education opportunities and explore current tools and techniques; utilize evolving advances in technology to benefit and enhance each sport's training philosophy; and serve the sport coach by providing specific and tangible information regarding their athletes' physical status and abilities 
  • Work in conjunction with the Assistant AD of Sports Performance and sports medicine staff on collaborative performance screening on a yearly basis; act as an integral advocate for the high-performance model within the Athletic Department for assigned teams; collaborate on rehabilitation plans per medical direction for appropriate modifications; ensure that nutrition plans are carried out for student athletes in collaboration with the dietitian
  • Communicate, collaborate, and interact with coaches, athletic trainers, administrative staff, and Towson Research Academy of Collaborative Sport Science to apply evidence-based practice for strength and conditioning
  • Understand and comply with all department policies and procedures, as well as NCAA and Coastal Athletic Association rules and regulations; promote execution of the Athletic Departments strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values, and acting upon its goals and strategies
  • Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures, including CPR/AED and first aid; comply with all Towson University conditioning policies and procedures and support catastrophic injury prevention
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD of Sports Performance

The work hours for this position may include weekends depending on competitive season and team schedules, as well as some evenings based on team competitions.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree

  • One year of strength & conditioning experience

  • CSCS or CSCC certification (please include on application)

  • CPR, AED, First Aid certification (please include on application)

  • Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge base in sports performance and injury prevention program development of the collegiate athletics population

  • Experience in GPS monitoring technology and workload tracking for practice planning purposes

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Commitment to student-athlete wellbeing, and health & safety in a competitive environment

  • Ability to collaborate in developing a holistic sports performance model

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Science, Nutrition or related fields

  • Experience at the NCAA Division I collegiate or professional sports level

  • Experience working with field-based sports

  • Experience with energy system development
