Job Description

Lycoming College is seeking a dedicated Part-time Communications Officer to enhance our Public Safety team.

As one of the oldest residential liberal arts colleges in the nation, Lycoming College is committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and equitable campus community for all faculty, staff, and students. This position acts as a primary point of contact for the Lycoming community within the Public Safety Office, making it essential for applicants to be sensitive to the diverse needs of our community members.

The work schedule is Friday to Saturday from 11pm to 7am. The hourly pay starts at $13.50, with retention bonuses of $.50 per hour after six months and an additional $1.00 per hour after one year of continued service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly and accurately to service calls, documenting incidents according to policies, including alarms and emergencies.
  • Engage effectively and respectfully with all members of the campus community and visitors.
  • Handle lost and found property in line with established procedures.
  • Maintain communication logs, including radio and telephone logs.
  • Manage key distribution and returns as required.
  • De-escalate challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Assist local law enforcement and emergency services when requested.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma required.

Skills:

  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and proficiency in using email and the internet.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy.
  • Strong written communication skills for report documentation.

Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and apply college policies and make quick decisions in emergencies.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, manage multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to act professionally in sensitive or high-pressure situations.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
