Job Summary

We are seeking a Downstream Process Engineer with experience in refining and petrochemical catalyst & absorbent technologies management including catalyst selection, performance monitoring, pilot testing, performance optimization, and handling. You will be joining our Global Manufacturing Support Department (GMSD) under our Global Manufacturing Excellence Center. GMSD's technical team is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing the required high-quality technical support to our Global Manufacturing operating facilities (Refineries, NGLF, and petrochemical plants) inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia & across the globe. Our Global Manufacturing Excellence Center supports and oversees the performances of This Company's global manufacturing assets. Your primary role will be to monitor and improve catalyst and absorbents performances, manage inventories, support techno-economic evaluation and selection, pilot testing, and field technical support. You will provide 'cradle-to-grave' process engineering support on catalyst and absorbents for Global Manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Review the operations of process catalysts by monitoring key performance indicators, including but not limited to product yields, deactivation rates, remaining lifecycle, etc.
  • Issue quarterly performance and benchmarking reports highlighting optimization achievements, performance gaps, and recommendations.
  • Provide support to process technology engineers in resolving any catalyst and absorbents performance gaps and assist in implementing optimization initiatives.
  • Conduct yearly benchmarking workshops with participating Global Manufacturing facilities to share year-round performances, best practices, agree on catalyst optimization and profitability targets, and recognize facility best performers.
  • Maintain an inventory of Global Manufacturing catalysts and absorbents, detailing the technology providers, quantity, next loading forecasts, etc.
  • Support and facilitate potential catalyst inventory exchange/synergy among Global Manufacturing facilities, including developing and supporting needed contractual agreements.
  • Represent the admin area in refining catalyst selection and evaluation, advocating for the needs of the business line according to established company procedures.
  • Coordinate with other internal stakeholders on the requirements for conducting regular catalyst pilot testing activities.
  • Collaborate with Global Manufacturing refineries in the negotiation and acceptance of catalysts and adsorbents vendor performance guarantees.
  • Assist with performance test runs to validate vendor's Proforma Performance Guarantees.
  • Manage and facilitate spent catalyst handling and precious metals reclamation (e.g., platinum and rhenium-based) activities in Global Manufacturing, including the development and maintenance of procedures.
  • Act as the admin area focal point in providing coordination and process engineering support on corporate catalyst strategies and related transactions.
  • Provide field support for catalyst-related activities such as loading and unloading, regeneration and rejuvenation, pre-sulfiding and activation, process optimization, and troubleshooting, as needed, in collaboration with facility process engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Support the pilot testing or field demonstration of commercial catalysts and in-house developed catalysts in This Company facilities in collaboration with R&D and other corporate technical entities.
  • Lead contract cost optimization initiatives related to fresh catalyst procurement, spent catalyst handling, re-use, and metal reclamation.

Requirements:

  • This role required candidate to permanently relocate at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related specialization.
  • An advanced degree with a specialization in catalysis is preferred.
  • Possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in refining and petrochemical catalyst and absorbents application, with practical experience in supporting or operating catalytic processes (e.g., hydroprocessing, reforming, catalytic cracking, etc.), including at least 5 years of experience in oil refinery or petrochemical plants.
  • Exposure to different technology licensors is a plus.
  • Have experience using process engineering simulation programs.
